First Aid and CPR Courses

 

As an official Canadian Red Cross training partner, MSERT offers first aid and CPR/AED courses to the general public, taught by experienced instructors.

Upon completion of a full course, participants receive a certification valid for three years in first aid and/or CPR.

Standard First Aid & CPR/AED

Duration: 16 Hours.

Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines and training in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED

Duration: 8 Hours.

Basic one-day course offering an overview of first aid and CPR skills for the workplace of home. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Meets OHS regulations for Basic First Aid. Exceeds competitors’ standards by including injury prevention content, CPR, and AED.

CPR/AED

Courses on CPR provide the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for adults, children, and babies, depending on the level of CPR chosen. Courses meet legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards, and include the latest CPR guidelines and training in the use of an AED.

Level A

Duration: 5 Hours.

Content: Responding to emergencies; Assisting with medications; Circulation emergencies; CPR/AED and choking for adult

Level C

Duration: 6 Hours.

Content: Responding to emergencies; Assisting with medications; Circulation emergencies; CPR/AED and choking for adult, child, and baby.

Cheque (payable to “Students’ Society of McGill University”) and cash payments can be brought to the MSERT Office (3471 Peel Street, Room 207).

First Aid Course Award

The MSERT First Aid Course Award allows individuals the opportunity to take a free course (up to a value of $110.00 CAD) with MSERT. It’s open to individuals who:

  •  Are registered McGill students
  • Have demonstrated an interest in first aid

The individual will be given a credit that can be applied to the payment of a first aid course. Applicable courses include Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C, Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED Level C, and CPR/AED Level C only. *If you have taken a course with MSERT during the Winter 2020 semester (Jan. 1, 2020-Apr. 30, 2020) or are currently registered within a course, you may still apply. MSERT would reimburse the course amount.
